BioDiesel is a renewable, relatively clean-burning, carbon-neutral fuel that can be obtained from a variety of oilseed plants, waste oils, and rendered animal fats. These unproccessed materials (feedstocks) can be converted into a petroleumdiesel-compatible fuel using a process known as transesterification. BioDiesel, compared to petrodiesel, is lead-free, contains almost no sulfur, benzene, xylene, or toluene. Its burning results in substantial reductions in the release of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon-monoxide, and soot. For those worried about global warming, biodiesel usage results in a 78% reduction in carbon dioxide emmisions. BioDiesel is more biodegradeable then sugar and 10 times less toxic then table salt, making it the ideal fuel when used in eco-sensitive areals such as parkland or marine habitats. BioDiesel can be used in most Diesel engines without modification. BioDiesel can also be used in home heating, for it is almost identical to #2 heating oil. Esther Energy produces BioDiesel from both new and used oils.
